Port St. Lucie, FL — Feb. 9, 2026 — Today, Dr. Robert Ott, educator, author, and business consultant, announced his candidacy as an independent for the United States House of Representatives in Florida’s 21st Congressional District. Dr. Ott enters the race with a lifelong commitment to service, resilience, and practical leadership shaped by personal adversity, professional achievement and years of community engagement.

Dr. Ott’s deep ties to the Treasure Coast strengthen his dedication to the region’s families and communities. His campaign is centered on six core issues critical to the district’s future: affordable housing and cost-of-living relief, quality care for seniors, mental health support for people of all ages, better compensation for teachers, and the protection of Social Security.

“My prosperity began on the day I was left penniless and homeless as the result of the Great Recession; that crucible of hardship reshaped my character and set the course of my destiny for community service,” said Dr. Ott. “That work taught me that real progress only happens when people feel heard and valued. As an independent, I strive to be the mediator in bringing all sides together that will benefit our community.”

“Too many families are struggling to afford housing. “Too many seniors are worried about dignity and care, and too many people are facing mental health challenges without adequate support,” said Dr. Ott. “As an educator and psychologist, I’ve seen these issues up close. As a candidate for Congress, I’m committed to delivering real, workable solutions that put people first.”

Dr. Ott’s life story is rooted in perseverance. Living with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and auditory processing challenges, he learned firsthand the importance of grit, resilience, and emotional intelligence. These experiences led him to the field of psychology, where he embraced positive psychology as a tool for helping individuals and organizations thrive. His approach emphasizes mindfulness, adaptability, and practical leadership—principles he now brings to public service.

In the wake of the Great Recession, Dr. Ott’s career shifted from retail and mortgage banking to education. He currently serves as an instructor at Fort Pierce Central High School, where he has taught for eleven years, and as a Master Instructor at Indian River State College for thirteen years. He also serves as a professor and faculty advisor for Pathways College. His previous experience working with C‑suite leaders and serving in multiple mid‑level roles has given him a deep understanding of economic systems, workforce challenges, and responsible financial stewardship. He has used this knowledge to strengthen teams and improve decision‑making. He’s ready to bring that experience to the communities he serves.

Dr. Ott’s campaign emphasizes bipartisan problem-solving, accountability, and a commitment to policies that strengthen families, support educators, protect seniors, and expand access to mental health resources for people.
